This conference offers the opportunity to exchange ideas
with worldwide experts in lighting. Given the theme,
Light, Dark Skies, and Space, we will explore areas
in which lighting and astronomy professionals can learn
from each other and better understand common issues.
The International Commission on Illumination (CIE)
prepares reports and standards on all matters relating
to the science and art of lighting. The CIE is recognized
as the international standards writing organization
responsible for standards in the science of light and
all forms of lighting. Seven Divisions and (>130)
Technical Committees do the work of the CIE such as
working on technical reports, recommendations, and standards.
(e.g. The CIE standard on Photometry, which soon should
be a joint ISO/CIE standard, sets the basis of all physical
measurement of light in any form.)
Technical committees covering topics which affect astronomy
include Interference by Light with Astronomical Observations,
Lighting for Developing Countries, Crime and Lighting,
Security Lighting for Private Properties, City Beautification,
Visibility, Discomfort Glare, Sports lighting, and many
others.
