This year (2000) marked the 10th annual
NIAGfest/GREATCON competitions, run since 1991 by Chuck
Allen. The first two competitions (in 1991 and 1992)
were held at Hidden Hollow. The last eight (1993-2000)
have been held at NIAGfest at Camp Crosley near Warsaw,
Indiana. NIAGfest is the annual festival of the Northern
Indiana Astronomical Group, a consortium of three societies
-- the Warsaw Astronomical Society, the Fort Wayne Astronomical
Society, and the Michiana Astronomical Society.
Competitions are held in three major
categories -- Imaging, Telescope Design, and General
Astronomy (slide supported quiz). A total of 134 different
people have won awards, including 189 first place awards,
over the 10 years of competitions. Here is a summary
of (1) all-time points leaders, (2) all-time Masters
Qualifiers, (3) the 1999 competition results and (4)
the 2000 competition results.
Top-40 All-Time Points Leaders (1991-2000)
Points leaders are calculated using
a simple 5-3-1 basis, where 1st place = 5 etc. (Overall
awards do not count since they are based on points.)
The number of first place awards is listed in parentheses.
Overall awards are indicated by year.

All-Time Masters Qualifiers (1991-2000)
Masters are NIAG/Greatcon contestants
who have repeatedly excelled in one of the three major
categories. To qualify, contestants must either (1)
win the first place overall award in a major category
in two different competitions in a five year period,
or (2) accumulate 30 or more points in two competitions
in a five year period. Masters receive special plaques
and cannot thereafter displace non-Masters for awards,
although they themselves must compete against all others.
On this list, Masters are listed in order of certification.
(Duplicate awards in the same year are the result of
team efforts or ties.)
