Vern Raben

Vern Raben is the Astronomical League webmaster, president of the Longmont Astronomical Society, and Mountain Astronomical Region representive.  He is the vendor chairman and webmaster for ALCon 2011.

Vern began observing at age 9 and built several telescopes while in grade school,  high school, and in college.  He has had a life-long interest in astronomy.  He is currently involved in video imaging of meteors, comets, planets, and the moon.

He has BS degrees in electrical engineering and computer science and MS degree in computer information systems.  Over the years he has worked for organizations in a variety of engineering roles in controls, instrumentation, electronics, and  software fields,  In January, he received a  tech brief award from the NASA Inventions and Contributions Board for development of  the "Solar Active Region Display System". The system monitors hazardous regions on the sun and is used by NASA, NOAA, DHS, USAF, and many others.
