2004 Venus Transit

Join us for an afternoon and evening of Star watching!

Venus will begin its passage across the disk of the sun around 5pm and will last until sundown. The next time this will take place is December 10, 2117, so this is the last time anyone alive today will see this. Pretty cool! Weather permitting, we can continue into the evening hours with Saturn.

Meet at the soccer fields behind Hickory Knolls Discovery Center at 4:30pm. Amateur astronomers from Iskywatch.com and The Chicago Astronomers will have scopes out to view Venus as it passes over the sun and will be up until the rise of Saturn in the southern sky (approx. 8:30pm).

Everyone is welcome to bring a telescope! Remember that aiming a telescope at the sun without the proper filtering will cause blindness! For more information on the Transit of Venus please visit http://www.transitofvenus.org/ .

Make sure to register for this free event June 1st so we can get an accurate head count.

This is officially a Once in a lifetime event if you missed it in 2004!
