John Dobson

John Dobson has spent much of his lifetime introducing astronomy to the general public.  His innovative design for a large, portable, low-cost telescope is widely used by commercial manufacturers and amateur telescope builders. That design is now described as the Dobsonian telescope. He is co-founder the San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers.
