Over the Moon! Astronomy Day 2017

The Children’s Museum in West Hartford Connecticut celebrates National Astronomy Day on Saturday May 13, 2017 with a theme of “Over the Moon!”

Throughout the day, visitors are invited to participate in hands-on moon-related activities and learn about nocturnal animals in the museum’s Wildlife Sanctuary. Weather permitting, solar viewing will be presented by Dr. Dawson (astronomer, Western Connecticut State University) in the Museum’s outdoor courtyard. A special selection of moon-related planetarium shows will be presented in the Gengras Planetarium plus a live tour of the night sky that includes information about the August 2017 eclipse

The highlight of the day is a special program called “Moon Rocks Live!” that will be presented by elementary-school students from the CREC Discovery Academy of Wethersfield, Connecticut. After this live presentation, visitors are invited to touch real moon rocks and meteorites!
