2017 OPT Imaging Awards Solar System, 1st place
Mike Krawczynski, Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri

Hydrogen alpha composite image of the Sun’s partial disk with prominences, filaments, and sun spots.

Equipment:

Lunt 60 mm solar scope with double stacked  H-alpha filters
ZWO ASI 174 mm monochrome camera
Celestron AVX mount

The image of the disk is composed of a stack of the top 10% of frames from approximately 30 seconds of video.

The prominences were also stacked from a video with longer exposure times on individual frames. Video frames were cropped and aligned in PIPP, and stacked using the Autostakkert2! software.

Final processing (combination of prominence data and disk data; sharpening; level adjustments) and coloring was done in Adobe Photoshop.
