Observing Program Division Announcement – Solar Neighborhood Observing Program (2022)

This year at the AL-Con in Albuquerque the Council approved two new Observing Programs.  One of them is the Solar Neighborhood Observing Program.

The Solar Neighborhood OP is intended to introduce observers to the stars located near our Sun.  For more information, check out the Solar Neighborhood OP web page.

Observing Program Division Announcement – Bennett Observing Program (2022)

This year at the AL-Con in Albuquerque the Council approved two new Observing Programs.  One of them is the Bennett Observing Program.

The Bennett OP is a direct substitute for the Messier OP for those south of the equator.  For more information, check out the Bennett OP web page.

The Bennett OP may be used in place of Messier OP for the Master Observer Award.

Observing Program Division Announcement – Al Observing Challenge – Globular Clusters (2022)

By now you all should be actively collecting your galaxies as part of Galaxy Observing Challenge.  We are also announcing our next challenge:  The Astronomical League’s Observing Challenge for Globular Clusters.  It runs from July 1, 2022 through September 30, 2022.  This is open to anyone, membership in the AL is not required.  For more information, go to the Challenge’s web page and scroll down:  

Observing Program Division Announcement – James Webb Telescope Special Observing Challenge (2022)

To commemorate the First Light and First Target of the James Webb Telescope, we are offering a new NASA Observing Challenge Special Award.  Your target is star HD 84406 (the telescopes First Light target).  The image or sketch should be done between June 20 and July 20 and must be submitted electronically by August 20.
